Destiny 2: Black Armory
Senior Level Designer
Zone Location & Setup
Starting out on this project, I was tasked with finding locations for the four forges and setting up transitions to and from the adjoining bubbles(zones). Adding new transitions to already packed zones meant there needed to be a focus on performance as well as flow.
Level Design
After setting up the transitions I went through three of the arenas and took them through a general blockout of the space. Being areas expected to see alot of screen time, there was a key focus on diverse layouts, fun/smooth flow through the space, and interesting encounter pockets.
Encounter & Event Setup
I was also able to setup one of the arenas encounters and events, while providing support to the other three. Setting up encounters focused on wave density/make-up, pacing, scripting, encounter flow, sightlines, etc. The list goes on. It's feels like orchestrating a dance when done well.
"This was one of those low stress, fun projects that come along ever once in awhile. Being the second DLC I worked on with Bungie, there was none of the ramp-up/learning period and we also already had a great process in place. This allowed for more iteration on the designs and less setup."
Bergusia Forge
I spent most of my time in the Bergusia Forge off of the EDZ. Setting up a number of different events with the Cabal and Fallen. This included: setup encounter zones with proper cover and sightlines. Managing mobs wave structure and movement based on remaining enemies and player(s) position.
